I took this photo on the front lawn of our house. I am an avid macro photographer and was trying to capture lots of bokeh and water drops.Time
This photo was taken early in the morning. I was trying to get the perfect capture before the sun got too high in the sky and the dew disappeared. My husband and I are both photographers and usually have quite the friendly macro competition. He had come outside to check my progress and I distinctly remember rolling over from laying on the wet grass and telling him "This one is it. This is the shot I've been trying to get!"Lighting
Two things.... I love bokeh and I hate flash. I'm all about trying to use as much natural lighting as possible. I also love all those tiny bits of bling in the back ground. Everything is better with bling.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon 7100 and a Nikkor 105 f2.8 G EV macro lens. This was hand held a couple of inches off the ground.Inspiration
As I mentioned previously, I had been trying to get a shot like this and was beyond excited when I looked at the playback on my camera. Its amazing the beautiful details of this earth that we might not stop to notice or be able to see without macro photography.Editing
I usually do a little post-processing but I don't recall having to do much...maybe boost contrast a tad.In my camera bag
My husband just upgraded me to a Nikon D750, so thats my newest addition. (That's the upside to having a husband who owns a camera store!) I loved my Nikon D7100 and even passed up a previous upgrade attempt. Of course, I have my macro and then I also have a 70-300mm. I have some ND filters I like too and my photo bucket list includes a ridiculously ethereal water shot.Feedback
Get low to the ground, steady your hand, play with a super shallow depth of field... as shallow as you can get and maintain a sharp focus. Macro with natural lighting is best on a bright day. And take hundreds of pictures a day!
