This photo was taken on my first visit to my ancestral home in Kilbaha, Loophead, Co. Clare, Ireland. This was essentially my families back yard and what a backyard it is.Time
This is one of my favorite images taken from that first trip home. It was about 4:00 p.m. in the afternoon and myself and my uncle were wandering around the Loophead Lighthouse and I decided to take a right turn off a walking trail and this is what I discovered. I spent probably 30 minutes just taking in the spectacular scenery before I started taking pictures.Lighting
I wanted to draw the viewer into the spectacular scenery and geology of the cliffs with cows dotting the otherwise pristine landscape. Every where you turned there was something to look at whether it be the cliffs, the waves crashing, or the birds diving toward what the locals call "The Door." The birds made interesting sounds that almost sounded like laughing.Equipment
The batteries ran out of my Sony DSLR so this was taken with a Sony point and shoot camera.Inspiration
The scenery was nothing short of spectacular. The geology formations over thousands of years have formed layers, loops, and doors naturally from the waves battering the coastline.Editing
The only post processing I used in this photo was increasing the contrast slightly. The rest of the shot is all as I viewed it standing there. When you have scenery that breathtaking, mother nature took care of the processing for me.In my camera bag
I always have my two Sony DSLR's with me. One is a full frame E mount camera and the other is an APSC DSLR. For backup in case my batteries are dead are my point and shoot Sony camera along with my phone. I usually carry a 50mm lens along with a 70-210 lens along with my favorite G Master lens which is 70-240.Feedback
Sometimes taking the a turn off the well beaten path pays off as it did in this case. Explore the surroundings of what you want to shoot because I have often discovered that it leads to my favorite shots.
