This is photo was taken in my home. Buster had been in his kennel all day. This was his time to be with daddy in the recliner.Time
This photo was taken between 5-6 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. It gets dark early in the pacific northwest during the long, cold winter months.Lighting
I wish I could say something special about magical lighting, but I cannot. The only light came from a very dim 25 watt bulb in a standard table lamp. The light only lit the very closest objects...everything else went to black.Equipment
Funny, a person can have expensive cameras, lens, and filters and yet, sometimes only your cell phone is readily handy at just the right moment. As my little one slept, I only had access to my Motorola Droid cell phone sitting close at hand. The moment would have been lost if I had disturbed him to get my gear.Inspiration
Is there anything sweeter than a sleeping puppy or child? This little guy had spent hours in his kennel without anybody to hold or comfort him. Once he was safely wrapped in his blanket, he quickly fell asleep on my lap. I feel fortunate to have captured this little moment in what will hopefully be a very long life together.Editing

Art is where you find it. I don't know how often I have loaded up my gear, taken to the back roads or up into the mountains looking for inspiration. Many times I return without any images that I feel are special. I would say, be cognizant of your surroundings and the simple day-to-day occurrences in your life. There may be a jewel laying right in your lap...waiting to be captured by your camera.
