Location
The photo was taken in Trondheim City. Since I've been physically reduced, I've focused on finding beauty in my hometown. I learn how to be creative to bring forth the charracter and charm.Time
One of my favorites. I woke up with an urge to create and decided to head down to my hometown this day. Due to the location of the sun, I decided to take a photo of the old piers from the other side of were i normaly photograph. The picture was taken at the afternoon.Lighting
The sun was hiding behind a soft and large area of clouds. This acted like a giant softbox. Lee BigStopper created some soft movement in the sky and river.Equipment
LEE BigStopper, canon 17-40mmL, Canon 1Ds3, remote shutter, Induro tripod and 3way head.Inspiration
I was looking for a partly backlit object that represented my hometown and its history. I was inspired from numerous photographers that use long exposure.Editing
Yes. I have done some retouching. Partly technique that is selfthought and some ideas from artists like Ryan Dyar, tony kuyper and Serge Ramelli. In my camera bag
I always carry my remote shutter release, 17-40mm, 1Ds3, Induro tripod and LEE BigStopper. I also have with me a cloth to clean the lense and a lensepen. Toby from camera rec got many great videos that recommend nice gear. On this shoot I carried all the gear on my Holdfast Moneymaker. A bag on one side and camera on the other, with tripod in my hands.Feedback
I always have an idea on what I want before I go out. This way I search for this. But at some point I'm open for new ideas as I walk around, or after I've gotten something close to what I have imagined. For this photo you need a balanced composition with a reflective surface like ice or water. Also a tripod and a ND filter. Mirror lock up, a foreground, the main subject in the middel, sky is the background in comp. Live view focus, f/7.1 - f/22. Iso 50-100. Lots of colors on object, long exposure and patience. Not every day gives great results. You may need to return to the desired location.
