Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the annual Portland Rose Festival in one of the display booths where people could "feed the butterflies" (although it was more like "be swarmed by butterflies." :-)

Time

This was taken in the early afternoon and actually was inside a poorly lit tent.

Lighting

This was taken in the early afternoon and actually was inside a poorly lit tent, but I think I used the on board flash to get the amount of light that I did get.

Equipment

This image was taken with my former Nikon D5100 with the 18-55mm kit lens and the on-board flash. This was before that camera was stolen from me in San Francisco. :-(

Inspiration

I thought that it was awesome how many butterflies there were in the tent and they were everywhere, but these few were just sitting still enjoying their perch. So I seized my opportunity.

Editing

At that time, I was still pretty new to the Post-Processing so I think I cropped and hit Auto for both the white balance and Basic developing. No clarity, sharpening, lens correction, or anything else at that point. This image is pretty raw as far as post-processing goes.

In my camera bag

Right now I am carrying my Nikon D5500 DSLR, Nikkor 35mm Prime, Nikkor 50mm Prime, Nikkor 18-55mm kit lens,Nikkor 55-200mm zoom, and the Nikon SB-500 Speed light. I am still very much amateur so I don't have any really expensive gear yet. I hope to get into more portraiture in the near future, but that is a work in progress.

Feedback

Well for that particular picture I was really overwhelmed with the amount of butterflies all over the place and so I actually just stopped and looked for something "out of the ordinary" and those butterflies were just there not really doing much, so I captured them before they flew away as well!
