Founded in 1889, the Old Mackinac Point Light Station was in operation from 1890 until 1957. The completion of the Mackinac Bridge in 1957 eliminated the need for the light. Since the Mackinac Bridge has lights on it at night, the bridge became a much better aid to navigation than the light.
(Growing up in this area I knew a man who was born in this lighthouse.)

I love that you caught the lighthouse at the time of day you did. Living in the area I see plenty of pictures of the bridge and lighthouse and this one is, pleasingly very different than what is most often seen.

I love being out before sunrise and having some places in mind to capture in a different light. This was a bigger gift as someone had left a light on inside the lighthouse overnight. It was also fortunate that the bridge was accented by a somewhat clear spot in the clouds. Thank you for the "Top Choice" peer recognition.
