I like the concept, really nice ... except, I would smother the upper part of the model, it is to sharp cut out for me (doesn't look natural)

Location
This photo was taken in my studio in San Jose, CATime
11amLighting
Lighting consisted of a single strobe placed behind the red door to create the shadow of the door, and a large 3'x4' softbox to camera right to light the model. The strobe behind the door was set to full power and the softbox lighting the model was approximately 1/4 power.Equipment
Canon 5DmkII with a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L lens at 24mm. Strobes were AlienBee 800s.Inspiration
This photo was inspired by a photo I had seen by Zoltan Toth called Beyond a Dream (https://500px.com/photo/1284330/beyond-a-dream-by-zoltan-toth). It was a free standing red door in front of some clouds. I was doing a series of photos with models facing away from the camera looking towards the horizon or other interesting background so I combined the two concepts to create this image.Editing
Post-processing on this image was fairly straightforward, I did some minor skin retouching on the modell, then replaced the background behind the door with a cloud image, a color overlay helped match the colors of the cloud with the floor and model. In my camera bag
Canon 5DmkII, Canon 17-40mm F/4L, Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L, Canon 24-105mm f/4L, Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L, Canon 580 strobe, 4 pocket wizards, intervalometer, CamRanger, lots of memory cards, batteries, and business cards.Feedback
My advice is to plan your shots, every shot I take in the studio has been pre-visualized and planned long before I get to the studio. This is necessary for shots like this because I had to purchase a door and paint it, but even for shots of just a model posing, I have a storyboard or notes written down about the concept and what I am trying to achieve. I have written about my approach to storyboarding and planning out my shoots in this blog post http://craigcolvinphotography.com/the-power-of-sketching-your-photographic-ideas
