Location
At pond in Alberta, Canada.Time
In late after-noon, just as a light rain shower was ending.Lighting
The bright sunshine and rainbow that was created from an ending rain shower created a perfect backdrop and lighting for this image.Equipment
I used a Nikon D7000 and the Nikkor 70-300mm lens.Inspiration
After an afternoon rain shower, I decided to drive to my favourite pond to go for a run. Once I got there however, I realized that there were countless birds and superb light and could not pass up the photo opportunity. I rushed back home to grab my gear and by the time I got back, there was a beautiful rainbow that the birds seemed to be flying through. I stayed at the park until the rainbows disappeared, not wanting to miss a single moment.Editing
I have a couple different versions of this image, some of which are edited. This one however is completely unedited. In my camera bag
I have my Nikon D7000, Nikkor 18-105mm, Nikkor 70-300mm, Nikkor 35mm f/1.8, Nikkor 50mm f/1.8, Nikon SB-700, 5 Sandisk memory cards of various sizes, remote, Solmeta GPS (amazing), large Gorillapod, Manfroto tripod, and a multitude of other small accessories and cleaning products.Feedback
Always have your gear bag ready to go! If I had had to scramble to put everything together, find an empty memory card, full battery, or a specific lens, I would have missed my chance to get this shot. Also, have patience! I walked around the pond waiting to get good shots and eventually ended up sitting in the wet grass so as to get lower and not disturb the birds. The extra effort was well worth it!
