Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the Carolina Raptor Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. This is a center for Birds of Prey that have been injured or orphaned.

Time

Mid afternoon

Lighting

The lighting was overcast that day

Equipment

Canon Xsi with a Tamron 70 - 300 lens. No flash or tripod was used

Inspiration

I love bird and nature photography. This wonderful Barred Owl was giving me a great pose just begging to be photographed.

Editing

I did some minor post processing with Lightroom 5. I did crop the photo and did some minor adjustments

In my camera bag

Now I carry a Canon 60D, a Canon 18-135, a Sigma 70-300, a Canon 50mm, and a Canon 50-250. I always have a spare battery and extra SD cards.

Feedback

This image was actually captured of this owl behind a fence. I was able to make the fence disappear by getting as close as possible in full zoom mode. I always use the fastest speed possible for the lighting I have when capturing bird images. I try and keep the ISO as low as possible for a cleaner image without the noise.
