Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on the beach in Wells, Maine.

Time

It was around 8:30 a.m. at low tide. I discovered one morning while walking the beach that there was a particular section where the seaweed made exquisite patterns in the sand. Every morning and evening provided me with a new canvas to photograph.

Lighting

It happened to be a sunny day. I had to be mindful of not getting my shadow in the image.

Equipment

Canon Rebel t3i

Inspiration

I love taking photos of images that occur naturally. That, combined with my love for the beach, made this the perfect subject. I looked forward to going out each morning and evening to see what had developed as the tide was going out. The natural sand paintings created by receding seaweed never cease to amaze me.

Editing

No post-processing needed, au naturel.

In my camera bag

I don't carry much - my camera, a lens cloth, and an extra card.

Feedback

Get out and walk the beach before others trod on the patterns. Look at the patterns from different angles. It might naturally occur vertically but looks interesting horizontally. Also, look for rocks because they often become an element in the pattern.
