Location
It was taken at Western Nevada close to Death Valley. It was in july and milkyway was up most of the night. The moon was down by midnight.Time
After Midnight.Lighting
I light painted the Joshua tree from 1 o'clock position for more details.Equipment
I used nikon d800e with my favorite astrophotography landscape lens which is the Zeiss 15 mm.Inspiration
I love making photographs of the milkyway and also love lightpainting. Joshua tree is the perfect foreground subject. It has the details and contact in addition to the unique form.Editing
Yes. Milkyway images tend to be noisy due to the high ISO and relatively longish exposure. SO, noise reduction without losing stars is the key which requires experimentation. In my camera bag
I am a gearoholic so I tend to have three different camera systems mostly medium format in addition to Nikon d800e ND now D810.Feedback
You need to prepare and research. There are plenty of apps that can help the process. Need Google Earth in addition to a star program. TPE is great to know about the status of the moon as well.
