Location
In a sidewalk of a normal street with some trees on the left and a wall covered with leaves on the right, in my hometown, not far from Milan.Time
I just got out to shoot with the sunset light, so late afternoon of a sunny day.Lighting
Light is the main thing, in daylight my favourite is sunrise, then sunset, that is usually warmer.Equipment
Actually I have only a Nikon Coolpix, in the past I had always used very expensive professional Nikon equipment; my favourite brand. This shot was made in natural light only, then heavily computer processed.Inspiration
An experimental very creative technique I was thinking about from some time. I love blurred photos with strong armonic colors and abstract art.Editing
This photo is mostly made out of post-processing. If I tell how I got there, people would hardly believe it. First, main thing, was the perfect light of sunset. Then I took my bike, put the Coolpix in film mode in wideangle focal lenght, and while riding along the streets of my town I was swinging the camera left to righ in a circular way to get very blurred color lines. Then I went back to my computer and saw the whole blurred film. Each time I saw some interesting frame, I stopped the play and took a photo of it. I got several hundreds out of an hour film, then my favourite few went into Gimp for processing. I cut them then rotated to the desired shape, saturated the colors and modified them to get dreamlike effects. One has to be crazy or genius to do that, maybe both, but that's the truth on how I got it. Pictures made this way can be tremendously impressive and limitless in creativity; very different from the thousands of "me too" pictures I see almost everywhere in the web. One must explore new territories in all aspects of shooting and processing to get new vision of thinghs one can see everyday; very few photographers do that.In my camera bag
Actually I only have a Coolpix. To shoot street photography equipment required is a 15 mm, an 85 and a 300. Always buy the most luminous-expensive available and no zooms but fixed focal. 24 mm is good for shooting group of people. Polarizer and a flash, only as a fill-in. No tripod, it's a limit to the fast action.Feedback
The technique is well described above. It's not difficult but takes long processing time, also some days; it's worth it anyway for people who love abstract art. Any questions, you can write to me on facebook-Mario Pelletti Ciao.
