Behind The Lens

Location

I took this amazing shot in Seattle Wa right in front of a Greyhound bus depot in Stewart Street. Today that wall is painted white unfortunately as the color shop is not there anymore.

Time

It was around 4 pm

Lighting

Natural light only

Equipment

Nikon F2AS, Nikkor 85mm 1.8, pola filter, free hand, Kodachrome 25 exposed at 32.

Inspiration

I just noticed this amazing surreal composition of the pick up and the big painted objects while I was heading to the bus depot to check the bus timetable. I was just very lucky. It all happened in few seconds, no thinking how to frame it or turning around: just seen and shot.

Editing

No processing, shot as it is. At that time ( aug. 1983 ) Photoshop was yet far to come.

In my camera bag

In those years my equipment was Nikon only with 20mm, 85mm and 300mm lenses.

Feedback

I think we all see what we know. It takes a deep culture in fine art and a good amount of sensitivity while looking around. Surely many thousand people have passed in front of this wall, maybe some have taken the same shot, who knows. I try to recognize color harmony and surprising subjects keeping them simple, as seen with the eyes of a kid.
