Location
This photo was taken in the polder / farmlands near my home in Moordrecht, The Netherlands.Time
I was on my way to work on a cold winter morning. Because of all snow I decided to take a detour over some small country roads because I saw some fog on the fields. Especially with the sun just rising over the horizon the light was beautiful yellow and golden.Lighting
I like to break so called photography rules. Shooting straight into the sun is one them. Especially here in The Netherlands with ground fog in autumn and sometimes winter the sunlight is weak but beautiful. So I like to do that a lot.Equipment
I shot this with my Canon 5D Mark2 and EF 24-105 F/4 L USM lens, no tripod. The photo is taken at F/8.0 and 1/1600sec at 24mm.Inspiration
I wanted to do something with the zigzag line on the road and see if it reflected in the sun. When I looked in the distance towards the light an almost outworldly feeling caught me. The fog let the houses disappear but you see a chimney with smoke. At that moment I also thought about the title of my photo.Editing
I did some minor adjustments in Lightroom. Less highlights, lighter shadows and some more vibrance. In my camera bag
Most of the time I more or less know what kind of photos I am going to take. Normally I have my 5D Mark2, 24-105mm F/4 lens, 50mm F/1.8 (plastic fantastic) lens. Sometimes also my Tokina 100mm F/2.8 macro lens and I always take some cleaning equipment with me.Feedback
Almost always before I leave the house I check weather conditions now and for the next 3 to 4 hours. On my iphone I have some apps that tell me the exact time for sunrise and sunset and also in which direction the sun will rise or set. I recommend to use such apps. Also checking satelite images of the area where I going to is important for. Based on weather, sun conditions and terrain I sometimes know exactly where I would like to take photos. So, preparation is key!
