Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Radium Springs, New Mexico. I was walking near an abandoned building, and I noticed broken glass on the ground. The glass had a little bit of a fluorescent blue and yellow tint. I instantly thought this could make an interesting photo with some post processing. I am new at photography, so I have been experimenting taking photos of different things. I am also an artist, and I love to see things in a different way.

Time

This photo was taken around 10:00 a.m. in the morning. It was a cloudy and rainy morning.

Lighting

The lighting was pretty even across the surface of the glass since it was cloudy outside.

Equipment

This photo was taken with a Nikon D3200 using a 55-200 mm lens. The focal length was at 200 mm. No other equipment was involved.

Inspiration

I was near an abandoned building that I was also taking photos of, and I was walking around it to see if I could find anything that might make an interesting photo. Then I came upon the broken glass, and instantly thought it would make a neat photo. I didn't have to rearrange the glass, I took the shoot of the glass the way it was already arranged on the ground. I'm always looking for interesting things to take photos of.

Editing

I had to do post-processing in this photo. I increased the saturation and contrast, and lowered the brightness. Then I added a vignette.

In my camera bag

I am new to photography, so I don't have a whole lot of items yet, but here is what I pack in my camera bag: the most important of course is my camera, tripod, 18-55 mm lens, 55-200 mm lens, flash, extra battery, filters, remote control, lens hoods, and a cleaning kit.

Feedback

There are always neat things lying on the ground no matter where you live. People litter and throw things away. As the saying goes, someone's trash will be someone else's treasure. If I spot something lying on the ground, I will go look at it to see if I can turn it into something beautiful. Always take your time and look around at your surroundings. You can always find something that is or can be interesting, and with all the photography programs, it is easy to manipulate a photo of a mundane item to turn it into a beautiful and intriguing photograph.
