While hiking Sendero Laguna Meandrica in Costa Rica's Parque Nacional Carara we almost stepped on this fer-de-lance (Bothrops asper), tercipelo in Spanish, an extremely venomous pit viper! Bundled up, he was only slightly larger than an adult palm, but surely still deadly!
