Running alongside Highway 33 in Ventura, Calif., and up through Ojai, is the Ventura Bike Trail. On the side of this are numerous less-traveled paths and run-offs; most of which are filled with trash, left-behinds, and yesteryears. One path, however, led to this secluded hideout perfect for a down-on-their-luck wanderer. Shaded enough to be shielded from the hot sun, yet open enough to receive rays of scattered light and a cool breeze, this spacious forested shack looked appealing even to me after a long bike ride. Just weeks after this photograph was taken, the building was demolished; the car seat and mattress were left behind - cast aside again - to soak up the coming rains.
