Location
I took this photo on a hike at Chesterwoods State Park in Eyota Minnesota. It was my first time there and it quickly became my favorite place.Time
It was taken around 5 or 6 on an August evening. I remember feeling like I was in a painting where everything was tinted with gold.Lighting
All of my outdoor pictures are all natural lighting. I feel it's the only way to capture the true beauty of nature.Equipment
I used a Canon first generation dslr. No flash and no tripod.I wandered in to a flower field and rustled up a bunch of grasshoppers and kneeled in front of this plant to get the shot.Inspiration
I chose this one because it was the tallest in the field and caught my eye when I walked by.Editing
I changed the contrast dramatically to get the black foreground. Nothing other than that.In my camera bag
I normally carry my 85mm and 300mm lenses with me along with a rain cover and my micro zoom diopter, an extension tube for my lens and a good tough tripod.Feedback
It's all about the angle. Don't be afraid to exercise your yoga poses or get up in the tree or hop in the creek. The only other advice I have is to take 1000 shots of the same thing, you'll get one you like.
