Although at home in both fresh and satl water, the Pied Cormorant is more a bird of open coastal and subcoastal inlets and lakes than inland rivers. Off their coastal colonies they often congregate in thousands on shoals of fish, but inland they are more solitary. Males choose the nesting site. Both parents brood in shifts and both feed the young. Photo taken on the Redcliffe Peninsula, Qld.

This is a magnificent capture of this beautiful Pied Cormorant. I love these birds! You did well to get close enough to capture him so well before he took off on you.
