Location
I am fortunate to live on a small acreage just one hour out of Sydney Australia. This little caterpillar was happily munching away on a vine on one of the boundary fences.Time
3pm on an Autumn day - there was no sun - a lovely cloudy day - I think photographers are the only people that like cloud!Lighting
I used my flash to make the lighting even. Fortunately there was cloud cover which makes lighting so much easier.Equipment
My trusty Canon EOS 600D camera along with my favourite macro lens the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L MAcro IS USM. And of course my tripod.Inspiration
I was walking around the boundary fencing and noticed the St Josephs Coat Caterpillars munching away on the vine on the wire fence. The black, white and orange stripes of the caterpillar and bright orange head were amazing.Editing
I cropped the photo to make the viewer to concentrate on the fantastic head and strange hairs of the caterpillar,In my camera bag
I always have my Canon 600D EOS camera along with at least one lens - depending on the shots I think I will be taking that trip. Always spare battery, memory card and filter. Cleaning cloth is a must.Feedback
Be sure to pick a day with no wind. The insects are easily blown around on delicate plants in the slightest wind. Be patient. If you are photographing a bug that won't move away quickly - you have plenty of time to get THAT shot.
