Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Ha-Hula park, Israel, a unike reserve for migrating and local spieces

Time

I shot that photo at early afternoon. During that time butterflies are in their peak. Patience is crucial, due to its dynamic movement. so picking the right subject along with the right composition takes time.

Lighting

It was partly cloudy that day which caused a smooth light that emphasized the butterfly's colors

Equipment

I use Canon 550D, usually with 18-135mm. Although it is rather old camera it's still provides nice shots. I didn't have a bigger telephoto that time but the 135mm zoom was suffice for taking a great close-up. The subject remained calm even when I got physically closer to it.

Inspiration

Ha-Hula reserve is well known for its varaiatty of birds, esppacially at the migrating seasons. That day I was also amezed by the number of butterflies. There were several kinds of butterflies but that particular one was the best with that composition.

Editing

I usually do only mild post-processing, mainly light and saturation fixes.

In my camera bag

I use Cannon 550D body with 18-135 lens kit. On that I added 50-250mm lens and close-up rings, uv lens, flash, tripod and cleaning kit. I never could afford myself the best lens, but the ones I have is fine. I always try to take examples from other photographers and perfect my photography techniqe.

Feedback

Patience, Patience, Patience... that, along with knowing the weather and a little bit of luck might be great.
