Location
This shot was taken in a deep wood near my home. It was actually shot on a sunny day in October.Time
It was shot just before mid afternoonLighting
The photograph was in natural light, nothing was exceptional about it.Equipment
The camera was a Canon EOS 50D Set on a tripod, no flash, just natural light. f11, exposure 1.6 sec, ISO 100. I used a 17-85mm lens at 17mm. aperture at 4. Timer set at 2 sec to eliminate shake.Inspiration
I was just out looking for a suitable subject. I had been in the wood several times, but this shot stood out because over the weekend, a bunch of kids had rolled the section of felled tree trunk into just the right place making an interesting subject.Editing
I always shoot in RAW, so processing was in Photoshop CS6, which I no longer have. Manipulation was introducing the sun rays, using a red filter, then a blue filter. The final process was the conversion to Jpeg. Shooting in RAW, enables all of the colour spectrum to be converted into Jpeg, whereas, shooting in Jpeg , the camera 'throws away', 40 % of the photographs RAW content, giving you less colour in the final product. In my camera bag
At that time, I carried my camera, the 17-85 mm wide angle lens, a Tamron 40 mm lens designed for the cropped sensor. My tripod and that was all. Now I have a Canon EOS 80D, quite old I know, an 18- 105 mm Canon lens, the Tamron 40 mm and a heavier tripod. The 50D and the 18-85 lens now belongs to my grand daughter.Feedback
Keep your eyes open for the perfect shot. You have to develop the photographers eye ( yes it does exist) and be able to transpose the shot in your mind (takes practice). The days of taking the perfect shot are few and far between especially in the UK as the weather is very inclement.
