This was taken in my garden just after the poppy had wilted and dropped it's petals.Time
The day is immaterial for this kind of shot. However, where I live, my garden is partially shielded from harsh sunlight, so the light is gentle but bright. It depends upon where you are of course, but harsh mid day sun is not good for any shot, unless that's what you have planned.Lighting
Ambient light is always good in my garden, so there is no need for any other lighting.Equipment
I used a Canon Zoom 80D mounted on a sturdy tripod, Canon EF 24-105 mm 1.4 L IS USM. Ambient light no flash. The subject was held by an Altai Helping Hand. f/6.3, 1/100 sec, ISO 140, -0.7 step, 300 mm focal length.Inspiration
All the flower shots that I have seen have always been in full bloom. I thought I would try something different.Editing
Basic processing was carried out using Affinity Photo. I limited it to changing the background, clarity and sharpness. I always shoot in RAW as it gives more choice than Jpeg.In my camera bag
I always carry my Canon set up as described above plus a Sigma DC 17-70 mm 1:2.8-4 Macro HSM, a Sigma DG 70-300 mm 1:4-5.6. Black Rapid Sports strap which is more comfortable than the standard strap. And a Manfrotto mini tripodFeedback
Don't attempt it hand held unless you have your settings adjusted for that. In which case the above settings would not be suitable.
