Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo when I was about to pack it in and head home, after driving on the gravelled grid roads around the small, Canadian prairie town I live in. I happened to look in the ditch before I put the car in gear, and there it was. I got back out of the car, snapped the photo, got back into the car, and headed home.

Time

If I recall, it was a late summer afternoon or early evening with a few clouds and a bit of a breeze. I would have had to wait for the plant to settle after being swayed by the breeze before taking the shot.

Lighting

As I mentioned, there were clouds in the sky that would hide the sun for a time. I used the cloud cover to even out the light.

Equipment

This image was shot with a Canon T2i and a Canon 55 - 250 zoom lens.

Inspiration

I figured that I would not have such a golden opportunity to take this image again, so I made sure to get it when I had the chance.

Editing

Yes, I processed this image in Lightroom. I played around with the exposure, contrast, and RGB values, etc., until the image looked good to me.

In my camera bag

I have a Canon T2i camera, a kit lens, a portrait lens, a zoom lens, and a macro lens. It all fits into a backpack made for cameras and their lenses. I also have a tripod that I use once in a blue moon, when I take photos in low light.

Feedback

Look around you, in the places some photographers tend to ignore. This image wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t looked in a ditch by a gravel road. Beauty and stunning images are found in some of the unlikeliest of places. Take your camera with you when you go out, and invest in a good editing program.
