Location
This photo receives many compliments and is easily one of my favorites. It was taken just outside of Regina, Saskatchewan. You can see these barns from Hwy 39 between Milestone and Regina.Time
On my way back home around 6pm I stopped to photograph them.Lighting
The sun was getting low in the west lighting the barns and canola perfectly.Equipment
The camera was an Olympus E-3 with the Zuiko 11-22mm f/2.8 fitted with a Cokin split ND filter on a tripod.Inspiration
I've driven by these barns hundreds of times over the last 14 years, and always thought these barns would look great in a field of canola in bloom. That day when I drove past those barns, it was just as I had imagined. Everything was perfect. The contrast, the lighting, even the clouds. I had to stop to take the photo.Editing
Minimal processing in LR. Just a little micro contrast, levels and sharpening. In my camera bag
Nowadays I Use an Olympus Om-D E-M1. My bag usually has the Zuiko 11-22mm and 50-200mm, m.Zuiko 75-300mm, 45mm f/1.8, 75mm f/1.8, and the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 macro, all my filters, and at least one flash.Feedback
I'd have to say this photo doesn't work without all the elements coming together. The contrast between the barns and canola field, the natural light from the low sun, and the clouds adding a little depth and interest to the top of the photo. I'm hoping it all comes together for me again one day with these barns in a field of flax with their blue flowers.
