This photo was taken while visiting the small caribbean island of Curacao. As my wife was window shopping in the city of Willemstad, I was out shooting the different architecture and pastel colors of the buildings and houses. I happened to turn around on the street and saw these two gentlemen walking, both dressed in white, both walking by this older pastel yellow building. So I shot a couple of bursts as they walked past hoping to capture something unique.Time
This image was actually shot in mid afternoon with the sun high in the sky. The light was hard and not flattering, but I think that because of the yellow of the building it help to absorb some harsh light.Lighting
I wish the lighting would have been better or some cloud cover, but unfortunately this was not the case. However, I think the lighting in this image helps to bring out the different contrasting elements in this image.Equipment
This was shot using a Nikon D300s with grip and a Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 @ 32mm.Inspiration
I thought that if I could capture these two gentlemen walking past this yellow building almost equally apart from front door would make a good urban or street photography photo. I was lucky enough to have captured them within the burst I shot and was lucky enough to have captured both men in the same stride and almost looking at me.Editing
Yes, there was some pos-processing done on this image. I first straightened the image and then cropped a bit from the bottom. Decreased exposure a tad and added a touch of saturation for the bottom yellow and sky. I used spot healing to remove a couple of small lights above the windows and a tree branch that was protruding into the frame on the right side of the image. I then did selective sharpening to bring out the texture in the old wood around the green shutters at the top of the building and around the cracks in the middle. I felt this added to the uniqueness of the image. All performed in Lightroom. In my camera bag
Well, since this was basically a travel photography shot, my usual travel bag consists of a Billingham Hadley Pro. I am able to pack it with a D300s with grip. I will carry my trusty 24-70mm f/2.8 and also take along a 70-300mm for the added reach. I will also sneak in a Tokina 11-16mm /2.8 since this is small and lightweight lens, but has amazing image quality. I will carry a SB900 flash, filters, and lens cleaning cloth/solution. Not to mention the must haves; extra batteries, battery charger, memory cards, lens pen and mini flashlight. I also take along a Mefoto travel tripod that fits easily into the suitcase.Feedback
This shot was captured by me listening to what the great photographers always say. Just don't always look at whats in front of you. Be mindful of your surroundings and always, ALWAYS look up, look down, look to your left and right, and most importantly, ALWAYS look behind you. You never know when a "money" shot will present itself without notice.
