The Emu is the largest bird native to Australia. It is the second largest bird in the world by height, after the ostrich which is native to Africa. These soft feathered, brown, flightless birds reach up to 2 metres (6 ft 6 in) in height. They can travel great distances at a fast, economical trot and, if necessary, can sprint at 70 km-h (43 mph.
