Location
I took it Palacio Real de Aranjuez, Madrid, Spain.Time
I think it was sometime in the afternoon. I was overcast and looked like it was going to rain.Lighting
The light was overcast and the clouds were fairly dark.Equipment
I used a sony RX-100.Inspiration
I was walking around with my family sight seeing and I just saw the this covered walkway. I thought it would be a nice photo because of the repetition of the columns, how the light came in from the side. I wasn't sure how it would turn out so I only took two or three photos trying to make sure I framed the photo properly.Editing
I used the Nik silver effects pro plugin for black and white conversion in lightroom. In my camera bag
If I'm just out and about sightseeing and not really thinking about photography I carry the Sony Rx-100 in my pocket. Otherwise I use a Nikon D7000, a Nikor 17-35mm f2.8, a Nikon 50mm f1.8 and a sigma 70-300 f3.5-5.6.Feedback
I think it just comes down to composition and framing the photo properly. I think I've taken good photos with little point and shoots like the Sony RX-100 and not just my DSLR. I've seen other people take exceptional photos with everything from inexpensive mobile phones to toy cameras but the thing that was always the same was that they had exceptional composition. I personally try to find something that I like to look at and think wow, "I need to photograph it". It happens a lot when I don't have my DSLR, so I started carrying around a point and shoot Sony RX-100. The only requirement I have is that I can shoot RAW so I can make sure I can make adjustments to it in Lightroom or photoshop. I look at how the light plays with the shadows and I try to make sure I frame the photo as well as I possible can. Sometimes I can't explain why I like the photo, or why I took the photo that way. I just like the way it looks. I use manual mode on my camera and keep changing my settings until I like what I see in terms of colors, lighting and shadows then I try to compose the shot the best I can. Then I try again. Sometimes I get lucky like this one and it only took three shots to get something I was happy with.
