I took this photo at the Palacio de Cristal in the "Parque del Retiro de Madrid".Time
I arrived at the park before sunrise and waited for the sun to get to just the right spot to take the photo.Lighting
I didn't have any lights with me. I just wanted to capture the building at sunrise.Equipment
I used a Nikon D5000 with a 18-55mm kit lens. It was my first DSLR and I was teaching myself composition and light.Inspiration
I love this building and I had been visiting it for about a month figuring out the best angles to shoot it. I realized this angle would be great for a sunrise photo after taking a sunset photo from the other side of the building.Editing
I just used lightroom to do some basic color correction. I was very lucky in that I was in the right place at the right time.In my camera bag
At the time (2011) I only had a Nikon D5000, a 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 kit lens and a manfrotto tripod. I now carry a Nikon D7000, a Nikor 17-35mm F2.8, Nikon 50 mm F1.8, a Sigma 70-300 f3.5-5.6, a Samyang 8mm fisheye lens, a Tamron 90mm f2.8 Macro lens, and a Three legged thing tripod.Feedback
The only advice I have is to scout the building to get familiar with its angles and see what it looks like in different kinds light. I really like the light at sunrise but I find it very hard to wake up early enough.
