Location
I'd only just got a new camera, and my first that wasn't a "point and shoot" so I was out experimenting in a wood local to me in the UK.Time
I believe that it was late morning or early afternoon. The sun was fairly high, but the trees provided plenty of shade.Lighting
The lighting is completely natural, and seeing as I didn't really know what I was doing at the time, I don't think it came out too badly....Equipment
I was using a Samsung NX300 and a an 18-55mm kit lens, so nothing special. It was shot hand-held as this was only the beginning of my photography journey.Inspiration
As I've already said, I was experimenting with a new camera, and the angle, lighting and colours appealed to me/ I guess it was one of those "right place, right time" moments. Either that or I just got lucky....Editing
There was a little post processing. I brought up the shadows just a touch, and increased the saturation to really make the different shades of green pop. Other than that, it's pretty much as is.In my camera bag
The Samsung that was used to take this has now been traded in for something a bit more professional.... These days I shoot with a Canon 7D Mk II and a 5D Mk III, with an assortment of lenses. If I'm travelling light as a walk-around, I use my 7D and a Tamron 16-300mm macro (not true macro, but decent enough). If I'm shooting concerts I take both cameras and a 24-70mm f2.8 and 70-200mm f2.8. I keep a 70-300mm too, just in case I want to get a little more range.Feedback
Being a concert photographer, I very rarely have time to set up a shot. This spills out into my other photos, so most of my photos are spontaneous. That said, experimenting is half the fun, and happy accidents can be just as exciting as going after that perfect moment. The best piece of advice I can offer anyone, is to just enjoy yourself.
