This is a burrowing owl, they are the cutest little owls i've ever worked with. The best part is they are not shy around humans usually. Standing just a few inches high and nesting underground they are very easy to miss when standing in the grass.Editing
this is actually a crop of a larger image, that is the only post processing done to this photographIn my camera bag
When photographing birds, unfortunately we run into the bigger is better theory. You simply need large heavy heavy lenses and very fast shutter speeds. the biggest and heaviest professional cameras are with me on these days and my rewarding glass of wine at the end of the day helps with the sore back of dragging around that 600mm all day.Feedback
be ready at a moment's notice when working with wildlife. They won't wait for you to set up tripods and adjust filters. Be fast, be ready and be looking everywhere. Wildlife hides but humans are generally supposed to be smarter, you can find them if you know what to look for. Learn about your subject and you can find them and anticipate their movements easier.
