Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from an old bridge crossing the Missouri River in Yankton, South Dakota. The old bridge has been converted into a walking bridge. These bridges connect South Dakota and Nebraska.

Time

As you can see, it was nearing sundown. The time of year was early summer.

Lighting

Being somewhat stormy, the harsh light of day was diminished. It was just one of those days when everything photographed well.

Equipment

It was shot with a Nikon Coolpix L810.

Inspiration

Bridges are interesting, where ever they are. This one is unique in that it crosses into the picturesque little town of Yankton. This in concert with the lighting and time of day made for a special photographic opportunity.

Editing

I did post-process. I used a single shot and created four additional processed photos, altering brightness and shadow.

In my camera bag

I carry my camera, Sony SLT-A33, four lens (18-55, AF70-210, AF100-200, AF100-300), a couple different lens hoods, tripod, extra battery, and cleaning items. I also keep my Nikon Coolpix L810 handy. This camera is easy to operate and I often have a grandchild with me that can experiment with it.

Feedback

I view thousands of pictures on ViewBug. I notice many, many pictures taken by photographers trying too hard to produce art. Let the art come to you. I look at everything I find interesting as if I were going to photograph it. The same subject shot under different conditions becomes different pictures. The light, the angle, depth, composition are all game-changers. Very grand subject matter can become very ordinary and very simple subject matter can become very grand.
