Location
Photo was taken while hiking through Pine Log State Forest, FLTime
The photo was taken during the day.Lighting
It was taken in the mid-day sun which was pretty good for this kind of shot since it allowed my shutter speed to be fast enough to prevent any blur.Equipment
Canon EOS 5D Mark III Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM LensInspiration
The colors of grass and the grasshopper attracted my attention.Editing
Yes, I cropped original image and then corrected contrast in RAW and Nik Color Efex Pro 4 PluginIn my camera bag
I usually have Canon 5D Mark III as well as Canon 6D as a backup camera. I carry a few lenses with different focal length all canon L series lenses including: 70-200mm, 24-70mm and 16-35mm. If I think I will meet some wildlife I take my 100-400 mm Canon L lens.Feedback
Having long focal length lens is essential. It allows you to stay far enough and not scary insect/animal you want to photograph. It is useful to out your camera in Tv Mode and set it to the faster shutter speed so that you can guarantee sharp image. Since getting the moment is the most important you might get exposure that would be a little off. In this case shooting RAW will come in very handy!
