Location
This is taken across the Nissan River in the small village of Byås in Hylte County, SwedenTime
It was early summer here in Sweden, so this was taken at about 10:30 in the evening.Lighting
Early summer is a beautiful time in Sweden where you get truly awesome sunrises and sunsets giving off a Lovely golden glow across the countrysideEquipment
Nikon D5200, Nikkor 18-55mm kit lens, Velbon tripod, Hoya 8xND filterInspiration
I'd gone out during the day looking for good access places for the coming evening's sunset. I often do a lot of daytime scouting Before going back to do an evening shoot.Editing
This is lightly processed (straighten the horizon, slight crop, lens correction etc) in Lightroom 5 along with 4 other photos in a bracketted series. The photos were taken at 1 stop intervals with the middle photo at 2 secs. I then further processed them using HDR in Photomatix Pro 5.In my camera bag
D5200, Nikkor 18-55mm lens, Nikkor 55-300mm lens, Nikkor 105m Micro lens, Yongnuo YN568EX Speedlight, various ND filters, cleaning stuff and a flask of hot coffee.Feedback
Needless to say, always use a tripod for long exposures. I'll normally take my long exposures with the camera in it's 'live view' setting and with the mirror up to minimise any camera shake. After getting the focus correct, I turn the auto focus off to stop the camera from refocusing between shots if I'm taking a series for stacking or HDR. Scout out the areas that you are going to shoot to make sure that you can access the area again when its very low light or dark. Be really familiar with your camera settings and buttons so that you can find them easily in low light.
