Behind The Lens
Location
This photograph was taken at Orford castle in Suffolk.Time
The photograph was taken at about 5pm.Lighting
The lighting on the foreground and castle is mostly natural with some enhancements done in Photoshop, mainly dodging and burning in the already existing shadows and highlights to add more depth and contrast.Equipment
I used a canon 60d handheld with just a 28-75mm kit lens.Inspiration
I have always loved movies and dramatic movie scenes, in this photograph I was trying to achieve a 'Lord of the rings' or an epic fantasy type feel.Editing
The sky has been replaced, the original sky was blue and washed out. I used the pen tool in Photoshop to isolate the castle and foreground and deleted the sky and replaced it with a sky that had the feel I wanted to achieve. Because of the different warmth in the sky I had to warm up the castle and Fire ground, I also used a slight orange brush on a superstar layer in a dodge style to warm up the shadows and tweaked the opacity to look natural for the shot.In my camera bag
1 camera (not through choice!) a 28-75mm kit lens a 75-300 kit lens, a 105mm macro lens and a 50mm1.8f lens. I also have various filters, a shutter release cable and a lose saving lens cleanin pen.Feedback
Try to learn the basics of photoshop, it takes a long time but it is extremely worth it. Eventually you will get to a stage where you start to experiment with your own idea knowing the foundations makes this possible. For me the art doesn't dtop after I press the shutter button. Happy shooting :)
