There was very little light but it was all natural light with a long exposureEquipment
For this photograph I used a tripod to enable me to slow the shutter speed to add a dramatic feel to the waves. I used a canon 60d with a sigma 105mm lensInspiration
The sea had always been a fear of mine but i have always been in awe of it and it fills me with wonder. I wanted to capture these exact feelings that I have for the sea.Editing
The only work I done after the photograph was taken was to sharpen the image over the rocked areas.In my camera bag
1 camera (not through choice!) 2 kit lens' covering 28mm to 300mm, a sigma 105mm lens and a 50mm 1.8 lens (a bargain lens), canon 100-400mm L and I always have a lens cleaning pen with me... You never knowFeedback
Experiment with the shutter speed, sometimes it is too fast and doesn't iffer enough movement and feel to the image and equally sometimes the shutter can be too slow and the dramatic power of the waves can become smooth and fog like (a good effect in its own right though). Always have the ISO set to 100 for the best quality, you will be using a tripod and slow shutter anyway so there is no real need to have extra light sensitivity at a reduced quality... And finally, trial and error, don't be afraid to shoot lots and adjust the settings to get exactly what you want from the image :) happy shooting
