Location
Lorne, a large coastal town in Victoria, Australia.Time
From memory, it was early afternoon.Lighting

My trusty Nikon D-5000. I think I was using the kit lens, 18-55mm.Inspiration
I can't take all of the credit for this image, since my wife encouraged me to take it and helped me frame the image so that I took the image from below the Lorne pier.Editing
Yes, using Topaz labs software. Some enhancements of saturation and sharpening. Nothing else. I have a 30 second post-processing rule: if the image doesn't look good after 30 seconds of processing, then it's a poor image and I move on!In my camera bag
Less and less these days. Generally bridge or compact cameras are my cameras of choice. The gear is the gear is the gear. The eye is what matters. In fact, I'm waiting delivery on a new camera today, a Panasonic compact.Feedback
You must listen to your own thoughts. Sound strange? Ignore all external noise and distractions. So, no headphones, phones, etc. Listen. Then, look. Look around. Up, down, side to side. Move slowly, or quickly, until you see the shot that appeals to you. Frame if carefully - I don't crop my images, so I must frame it perfectly each time. I know that adds pressure on me, but it's part of the discipline.
