Behind The Lens
Location
The photo was taken at Stover Country Park just a few miles from Newton Abbot, South East Devon UK.Time
It was a typical English Autumnal afternoon. I remember the day itself being bleak and grey.Lighting
There was no flash used so the lighting was natural. It was damp and with low lying cloud it seemed gloomy. The woodland behind was colourless but the green moss and the red breast of the Robin really stood out.Equipment
Camera: SONY SLT-A35, Aperture: f/5.6, ISO: 1600, Exposure: 1/25, Focal Length: 2500/10 The lens used was the normal kit lens with no filter. Good old steady hands.Inspiration
The afternoon was a just a walk in the park. I always take my camera as you never know what you will come across. On this occasion I noticed an inquisitive Robin following behind me. I stopped to notice it was only a few feet away perched on a moss covered granite post. I slowly tried to get the Robin into frame but I was too close. Edging backwards I took this one shot. I went to take a second edging slowly further completely oblivious of the stream behind. Splash! I was knee deep in murky water. My little friend, alarmed had flown away.Editing
I used Lightroom to blur the background and brought more tone into the picture. In my camera bag
Apart from my Sony a35, I have the odd filter lens and a tripod, I tend to use my eyes to look for the perfect composition.Feedback
Yes, take your camera wherever you go. I carry it in the car as I have had to safely stop to take that one split second shot.
