Behind The Lens
Location
I shot this photo at Becky Falls on the south eastern edge of Dartmoor, Devon way back in 2013.Time
Time of day was late afternoon during the Autumn. The owl was in a pen and it was feeding time. I thought it was an interesting shot to see it feeding so was able to get a close shot.Lighting
The lighting was quite good that time of the day, the owl pen was slightly dark but features of the owl were clearly highlighted. I shot in black and white as chiaroscuro proved quite dramatic.Equipment
I used my Sony a35, Aperture: f/5.6, ISO: 1250, Shutter Speed: 1/200 and Focal Length: 1350/10. Camera was hand held and no flash taking one shot but the right one.Inspiration
Inspiration came from seeing it feeding as I had never seen an owl feed before. I felt lucky to get this opportunity.Editing
The only alteration during post-processing was to slightly blur the background giving focal to the owl. Slight adjusting of the clarity to highlight the detail but no further editing was required. In my camera bag
My camera bag always consist of an extra battery and a spare HD SD card. I carry a standard lens as well as my telephoto lens for those far away shots. Other than that a tripod for those steady shots.Feedback
The only tip I advise is to carry you DSLR whenever you can because you just don't know when the next shot will be especially when it is unpredictable. Patience is another factor, know your equipment so you can adjust settings quick with ease.
