Location
This picture was taken on a beach in Algarve, Southern Portugal. There are many gorgeous and wild beaches in this region, and surfers love the the big waves of the portuguese Atlantic ocean.Time
It was taken on August. I was spending one week in Algarve with my husband and our three year old daughter. My husband and me are both passionate of photography, so, while one of us was taken a picture the other one had to stay with our daughter. It's a bit difficult to concentrate when you have to see to the children. Finally, the little girl was so bored that she fell asleep (now, she´s five and she has a camera, and she´s becoming a master of photography!!!). I put my camera on the tripod, and I waited for the sunset. The sky was turning into red and the shadows on the sand were marvelous, specially the footprints. Maybe it was eight or nine in the afternoon.Lighting
I just wanted to capture the mystery and stillness of that moment. The nature at this time was perfect: the place, the light. There was only one bad thing, and it was the wind that moved my tripod. I had to hold it very strongly so as not to move the camera.Equipment
My equipment is simple: canon 40 D (I hope to change soon my old camera for the new canon 7-D), the objective I used for this picture was one of my preferred angular Tamrom 11-16, 2'8. Of course, I always use a tripod for long expositions. Exp. 1/40 seconds, f 9, ISO 100. To enhance the colour I used a polarizer filter.Inspiration
There are lots of great photographers who inspire me. I admire Galen Rowell. I've always wondered how he could get those beautiful colours, the saturation, sharpness,...Editing
I use photoshop to sharp, add more contrast and saturation. I like to saturate my pictures to emulate the classical velvia. In my camera bag
Canon 40D, Tamrom 11-16 2,8, Canon 50 1,7, Tamrom 17-50 2,8 and Tamrom 70-200 2,8. Flash, tripod and everything makes 8 kilos on my back!Feedback
For making this picture you have to be patient and love nature and silence. Then, it comes a little bit of technic: long exposure, tripod, low ISO, and just that.
