Location
The image was captured at Broadwaters, which is in the Northern Cape, South Africa. The bridal couple were walking down a pathway with friends when I captured this candid moment of them just chatting and laughing. I prefer candid shots as apposed to posed shots where possible at weddings.Time
This was taken as the sun was setting at around 17:00, It was immediately after the ceremony which was held next to the Vaal River. The light was almost perfect for the time of day.Lighting
The light was perfect for the photo, sun setting just to right of them softly falling across their shoulders, just enough to give a bit of back lighting.Equipment
Taken with a Canon 60D and a my trusty Canon 70 - 200mm f/2.8 USM (non IS) Settings : ISO at 100, f/2.8, 1/125secInspiration
As I mentioned before I prefer candid type wedding photography and the couple were just so relaxed and having one of those intimate moments with their close friends it was a photo waiting to be taken. This particular couple actually did not want a wedding photographer but the parents insisted, they were so chilled and relaxed it was easy to capture candid shots of them. Great wedding.Editing
Very little post processing. I just brightened it up a little and made it monochrome. In my camera bag
I have too much equipment for one person, I have a lens fetish... but don't we all :). In my bag at weddings I have five lenses 50mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.2 L, 17 - 40mm f/4 L , 70 - 200mm f/2.8 L and a variation of either a 100mm f/2.8 IS L or a Tamron 24 - 70 f/2.8 IS. All the other lenses are Canons. I carry two bodies always a 6D and 70D. Also in my bag are three flashes and remotes. I have on hand two light stands with 60x60 diffusers for the flashes. I hardly ever use a tripod, I find them too inhibiting.Feedback
Always be prepared, take candid photo's as apposed to so many posed photo's at weddings. We need the posed shots but those stolen moments are the ones that make the greatest impact on your clients. The photos they did not know were being taken are the ones they will laugh, smile and cry over after the wedding. Make sure you know your camera well, shoot in manual mode and in RAW. Use flashes sparingly and if you do, use diffusers to make it look more natural. Capture the essence of the couple, not just the pictures.
