This photo was taken in my home, on the staircase by my front door.Time
I believe it was mid day.Lighting
There is nothing special about the lighting, it was a bright but overcast day. I took advantage of nature and time.Equipment
I was using a Nikon D90, my first digital camera. The lens I had on it at the time was a Sigma 18-250mm.Inspiration
There is a small window over the bottom three stairs, with a railing creating a small corner. My Husky/Malamute cross was sitting on the stairs staring out the window with her nose in that little corner. I saw this as I left the kitchen, thinking that this was a great shot. By the time I got my camera, and tried to sneak back to take the picture, she had moved. As I took a wide birth around the staircase wall to snap the shot, this is the moment I was able to capture. I feel that this is one of the greatest consolation prizes ever, not the shot I was looking for, but the one I got. Having said that it is one of my best, and would not trade it for the world.Editing
Other than some cropping, and a slight sharpening offer in the upload feature of ViewBug's site, it is the exact shot I took. I do not have a sophisticated program to alter my shots, I truly believe that I either get the shot, or try try again. In my camera bag
We have built a small group of camera's and lenses for our hobby. A Nikon D90, D7000, and D3300 are the cameras that my wife and I share. We interchange Nikon 18-70mm, Sigma 18-250mm, and Nikon 70-300mm lenses. We have a tripod, we seldom use, our cell phones and a love for the outdoors.Feedback
The world has become different since I picked up a digital camera. The term 'take a moment to smell the roses' has become a motto. I see things I had never noticed, overlooked, or passed by and want to capture them. My advice, other than always carry your camera, is to see things, experience things, and enjoy them. Creating great photography is not easy, it is a right place at the right time hobby for me. It gets frustrating at times, if you let it, but patience and perseverance are your best tools. I have a passion for birds, I may have picked the most difficult prey, they are elusive, quick, and unpredictable a real challenge. Rule number one...The shot you want is not always the shot you get, but it can turn out to be your best...Enjoy
