Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was shot in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada

Time

Bright and early, or for me, at the end of my day. I was working as a Night Auditor in the hotels in Niagara on the Lake. During September in the mornings, the sun rises just when I finish work, but also because of the Fall weather, an amazing Fog comes in.

Lighting

This was about as good as I could get for (Straight out of the Camera). I added a 75-300mm Lens on my little Canon Rebel, and Just set myself up in the right spot. I dared not to move as I snapped the photos. I think it was the most perfect sunrise.

Equipment

Canon Rebel T4i 75-300mm No Flash I didn't have a tri-pod with me, so I used a fence post to hold still.

Inspiration

You know when you see something, that is just too good not to stop and take a photo. This was it. I was tired, done the night of work, and ready to go home and sleep. I always have my camera with me. This was more of an opportunity that needed to be taken advantage of, rather then seeking to find.

Editing

Post Processing, I removed any colour and details in the silhouette, cut back some of the sharpness, and Removed some saturation, replacing with increased Vibrancy.

In my camera bag

I always carry as little equipment as possible. Over the years I have been shooting, I found that less, can actually be more, if you know how to use your gear. I usually have my Camera (Canon T6i), Activion Body Camera, A Charger and Spare Battery with 64gb SD Card. I always rock the 18-55mm, although every once and a while I do bring my 35-700mm. Tons of business cards, cellphone (really good for portable lighting) and a tripod if I am shooting at night.

Feedback

Always pay attention to your surroundings and be prepared. You miss 1000 shots you don't take. Driving for me, is one of the best times to hunt for photos. I carry my camera with me in the passenger seat, and when I find something, I pull over, shoot and then head off. Be mindful when driving and hiking, keep your eyes open and same with your mind. You will see more, shoot more, and have more fun.
