Location
This photo is off the Algebuckina Railway bridge Spanning the Neale river a normally dry creek bed but can be up to 6 metre deep during floods. It was built for the old Ghan railway line from Port Augusta to Alice Spring Northern Territory in Australia and is one of the many creek crossings on the Oodnadatta track. It was built in 1878 - 91 at a cost of 60,000 pounds. Made of nineteen 30.9 spans and is the largest single bridge in South Australia, and made redundant when the new modern line opened in 1980. It is listed on the national and state heritage register.Time
The photo was taken just after sunrise on 1 June 2009 at 7.59 am on a beautiful clear morning.Lighting
All the lighting was natural coming from the soft morning sunlight and lighting up the steel bridge magically.Equipment
We used a Panasonic hybrid camera DMC FZ50 Iso 100 f2.8 1/100. The shot was taken handheld by trying to line up the bridge to centralize the tracksInspiration
A beautiful morning and took a lot of photos of this unique site. Due to the perfect natural lighting.Editing
Post-processing only to soften a few sun reflections otherwise as to the camera recorded the scene. In my camera bag
Generally, I carry minimum equipment and very seldom use a tripod. At this stage, I was new to photography using digital cameras, after a lapse of many years using film reflex cameras.Feedback
Be prepared and always on the lookout for photographic opportunities, try different angles, and experiment.
