Location
This was taken in Tucson, AZ at the Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum. It's a gorgeous indoor/outdoor plant and animal center with all different kinds of native Arizonan plants and winding walking paths.Time
Because it's in Arizona this was taken in the later afternoon when the chances of melting from the sun had lessened just a bit. I'm pretty sure I walked away with a bit of a sunburned neck, but getting this photo was entirely worth it.Lighting
The lighting was all natural, later afternoon sunlight since I was wandering around an outdoor park (plus I don't own any external flash or lighting equipment!).Equipment
The only equipment used was myself and my always reliable Canon EOS 70D.Inspiration
The beauty of the Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum! There were so many gorgeous plants to take photos of that I was moving at a glacial pace and I'm sure my aunt, who was with me for the visit, was wishing I would get a move on. I like shooting a subject from multiple angles because you never know what's going to be best so of course I had to do an aerial view and capture the amazing outward spiral, especially since this plant has that perfect outward spiral.Editing
I did! But I took this quite awhile ago so I can't remember all the details. I know it was done in Lightroom so I think I tweaked the shadows and highlights a bit to give it a bit more pop and saturated the green a touch. I don't like to mess with my photos too much, especially ones of nature, so I did enough to enhance what was already there. In my camera bag
I don't own a lot of equipment so normally I have my Canon, a polarized lens cover since I live in very sunny Arizona, and I always always always bring along my old 35mm Canon I bought at a garage sale (along with a few rolls of film)!Feedback
Take a ton of photos and try new perspectives. I always think it's better to take more than you think you need/want because once you're sorting through them at home you're going to want as many options as possible! This is easy to do with digital because you can delete the duds, note what you want to improve next time out, and then post the perfect photo!
