The Blackthorn blooms in April and May full of white flowers. The blackthorn is often confused with the hawthorn, the big difference is that the hawthorn 'blooms bare' so first the blossoms and only then the leaves. The blackthorn does this exactly the other way around, first the leaf and then the blossoms. Both the blackthorn and the hawthorn are an irritating shrub, its stimuli provide protection for small birds and other mammals.
