.....lucky to get this close to one of these because they are very secretive during breeding season which is when this photograph was taken and they will submerge immediately when they become suspicious regardless of season. At times you may see a snake-like animal swimming about with their head and neck just above the waterline
....Although not as stunning as some of the more colorful birds it has been elusive for me due to its camouflage and secretive nature.
.....a Pied-billed Grebe is not a duck and quite surprisingly is actually related to Flamingoes

.... I was referring to neck and head resembling a snake when it swims around with its body submerged while the neck and head are still above the waterline ....it is a strange defensive behavior they display ... Thank you very very much Ron and Judy ...!!!
