The Eagle Nebula, also called Star Queen Nebula, and or M16 (Messier 16) which is it's scientific catalog designation is a stellar nursery located in the Sagittarius-Carina spiral arm of the Milky Way galaxy, about 6,500 light-years from Earth and 5 light-years tall. This area of our galaxy provides astronomers and astrophysicists with a rich area of stellar formation to study at many stages and in multiple wavelengths of light within the dense clouds of dust and gas comprising this object.
One of the most notable features of M16 is The Pillars of Creation made famous by the Hubble Space Telescope.
