Cara Cara are interesting birds. As raptors go, they are not the largest, being somewhere between a Red Shouldered Hawk and an American Bald Eagle in size.

Cara Cara are interesting birds. As raptors go, they are not the largest, being somewhere between a Red Shouldered Hawk and an American Bald Eagle in size.
They are also called: Mexican Eagles and King of the Vultures.
They are known to consort with vultures, getting in on carrion feasts, though I have also watched them hopping for over an hour across grasses chasing, if you can believe it, grasshoppers to feed themselves.
I snapped this one as it was about to strike out for something it could see past where I was standing. Pretty sure this is a male as it's neck plumage is fairly light in color. Females tend to have more brown in this area.
