At the zoo where I worked, we had this huge guinea pig exhibit. Oddly, it was possibly the most talked about exhibit, beating out comments on the tiger, lion or mountain lion exhibits. In the late 1920s and early 1930s, the first guinea pig exhibits were being built at places like the Bronx Zoo or Lincoln Park zoo. And from there, guinea pigs as pets.
